GVLIELMVS CHARLETON è medio Templo London: Armiger rerum naturalium, domi, forisque ubique Genti?, explorator sagacissimus; hujus Musæi instructissimi quasi consummationem intentaret; eidem, è penu suo cumulatissimo, Zygænam piscem integram, varias tum Coralliorum tum Conchyliorum species, Numismata item nonnulla (plurium pignora) piè sacravit.

Translation: :

William Charleton Esq. of Middle Temple in London, was a keen observer of nature and of peoples everywhere, at home and abroad. As if to perfect this already well-equipped Museum, he supplied it, from his own abundant collection, with a complete Hammer-headed Shark, as well as various species of corals and shells, and a large number of coins.
